As part of our design practice, we support Indigenous Design Labs, a youth-based program that targets Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders between 12 and 25 years and provides a headstart opportunity in the design and creative industries. As a creative agency based in Cairn, we engage the local communities to contribute to design projects, through hands-on learning and mentoring.
The self-funded program has been running since 2021. We encourage participants to gain valuable skills and knowledge in the creative industries. Indigenous Design Labs provides the experience of working in a studio environment and working with community organisations and corporations to achieve their vision.
As part of the program, young people learn ideation using pen and paper, right through to using industry standard software such as Adobe Creative suite. Our primary aim is to provide First Nations youth real-world opportunities to activate their creativity in the digital and design space. We also want to provide a culturally safe space for young people to express their creativity, their ideas and narratives. Indigenous Design Labs creates meaningful quality designs with First Nations influence, while up-skilling their talents along the way in the creative industries where they can thrive.
Beyond 2024, we hope to continue to strengthen and grow this collaboration.
